Vegetables
and Herbs: Edible Gardens
Vegetable Gardening
Creating your own vegetable garden may sound more difficult than it
is. Similar to beginning any garden, the first key step is choosing
the right soil. Adding composts provides more essential nutrients,
but may take a long amount of time to breakdown. Other options
include adding composted manure from a garden store to speed up the
process.
An ideal fertilizer will prove an equal balance of nitrogen,
potassium and phosphorous. Once your soil is ready, it is time to
prepare your ground and plant your seeds. Be sure to pay attention
to aspects such as exposure to sunlight and spacing of the seeds.
Choosing Your Veggies
Some vegetables are easier from beginners. These include lettuce,
spinach, carrots, radishes and corn. Here is also a list of
vegetables that grow better in different climates:
Vegetables for Warm Weather
1. Hot Peppers
2. Tomatoes
3. Squash
4. Cucumbers
5. Beans
6. Corn
Vegetables for Cold Weather
1. Lettuce
2. Peas
3. Carrots
4. Broccoli
5. Cauliflower
6. Brussels Sprouts
Herb Gardens
Herbs are fun and easy to grow on your own. Because there are so
many choices, you should think about your favorite and most often
used herbs. Be selective since beginning with too many herbs at once
can cause problems.
